Procrit
Procrit, manufactured by Ortho Biotech Products, is an erythropoiesis-stimulating agent (ESA) approved for the treatment of anemia in patients who have undergone renal failure and/or kidney transplant. In March 2007, the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that Procrit and other ESAs are associated with a higher risk of death or life-threatening side effects in patients who have cancer. A new black box warning, "dear doctor letter" and prescribing information are pending.
